Young Henrys x Applejack

Applejack x Young Henrys ‘Hazy Love’ Beer

We partnered with our mates at Young Henrys for our first ever beer collaboration! The coconut inspired Hazy Love was available at Forrester’s, Taphouse & SoCal.

About Young Henrys –
Young Henrys, founded by Richard Adamson and Oscar McMahon, with Dan Hampton joining early on, emerged from a shared vision to revitalise Australia’s beer scene. Their goal is simple: brew beer that locals can enjoy and proudly call their own. Focusing on well-balanced, easy-drinking options that suit the Australian palate and climate, Young Henrys creates beers that showcase local ingredients while prioritising community, culture, and sustainability.

Hazy Love –
We’re proud to partner with them for our first beer collaboration; Hazy Love. Made with toasted coconut painstakingly roasted at Forrester’s, combined with a robust Hazy Pale, the tropical style brew is reminiscent of summer in Sydney.
“This hazy New England IPA (NEIPA) is as cloudy as a fresh Piña Colada. It’s smooth and creamy with strong citrus and coconut flavours from USA hops, backed up by new boy on the block ‘Krush’ and added roasted coconut. The beer has a soft, full texture and is meant to be enjoyed fresh. Hazy Love is a limited release, so be sure to get in and enjoy it!” – Donovan Binks, Group Beverage Manager

Hazy Love was be available at Forrester’s Surry Hills, Taphouse Darlinghurst and SoCal Neutral Bay for Sydney Beer Week in October, 2024.

We chatted with Ben Stockton from Young Henrys to get his thoughts about this epic collab…

Q. What sparked the collaboration between Young Henry’s and AJ?
A. I think we’ve always wanted to do something like this together. We’ve been working with Applejack for over 10 years now, and have always tried to look towards fun and creative ways of partnering up. With Sydney Beer Week making its return – it felt like the perfect time to finally team up on a brew.

Q. How did you decide on the flavours?
A. Sydney is starting to heat up, and we wanted to lure summer in early with a big, tropical-style beer. Adding a heap of coconut to a robust Hazy Pale felt like a perfect way to do this.

Q. Can you tell us a bit about the process that went into making the beer?
A. Coconut can be a little tricky to brew with, and it needs to be toasted to get the most out of that flavour profile. Thankfully our mates at Forrester’s were able to use their monster-sized ovens to toast all 18kgs to perfection. We added that straight to the mash in (at the start of the brew) to get the most out it.

Q. How do you recommend enjoying this beer?
A. As a huge fan of the Big Yorkie (at Forrester’s), I think this beer will match perfectly with that dish. Sign me up for a dozen of those pairings. Equally, I think anything fresh and spicy would be pretty good mates with Hazy Love as well.
