Our Top Dishes To Try This Winter
Applejack’s Top Dishes To Try This Winter
An insider guide to our favourite warming dishes to enjoy this winter!
Whether you’re looking to enjoy a weekend-long lunch or catch up with friends for a mid-week dinner, we’ve compiled a list of the best dishes to try in our restaurants during these cooler months.
Our Top Dishes:
Forrester's Winter Yorkie
“As a Yorkshire lass, the big Yorkie is already my favourite dish on the menu, but having a full Christmas dinner packed inside takes it to the next level. This time of year reminds me of cold UK winters and this dish brings back so many memories of home. There’s nothing better than a warm Christmas dinner wrapped in a fluffy Yorkie.
The tender turkey, rich gravy, smooth creamy mashed potatoes, and all the veggies packed inside that Yorkshire pudding just feels like a hug from home. Perfect winter comfort food and the ultimate Sunday treat! Or any day of the week.” – Maria Strudwick, Group People & Culture Manager
The Butler's Wagyu in Adobo
“I’m loving the new Westholme adobo at The Butler. Its just like how you eat tacos in Mexico City but with premium Australian wagyu braised over night. Pick your cut of meat, serve in a tortilla and garnish with some of Chef Amber’s signature salsas.
I like to dip the newly formed taco into the adobo braise and have a juicy, rich, taco experience. A couple Tommy’s margaritas on the side and that’s a great meal.” – Patrick Friesen, Director Of Culinary
Irish Coffee at Bopp & Tone, Forrester's & Taphouse
“This was my Grandad’s favourite cocktail in County Offally (a country town Ireland) – he LOVED an Irish Coffee and I’ve been so keen on spreading the joy of them around Sydney.
It’s cocktail that has stood the test of time, and for good reason. Tullamore Irish Whiskey, a touch of sweetness, steaming hot coffee with a cold cream float, creating an incredible contrast of texture and flavour. A delightful winter warmer and should not be missed this season!” – Matt Johnson, Beverage Operations Assistant
Christmas In July Banquet at The Botanist
“Now the wet winter blues have come knocking, I’m craving the Christmas in July feast from Botanist. We’re talking herby porchetta with golden crackling, roast rosemary potatoes, root veg gratin roasted till sweet and soft, gravy poured until you say stop, and a salsa verde to round it out.
Top it all off with a rich sticky date pudding. Plus Xmas crackers, decorations and the rest to make you really feel at home!” – Toby Worthington, Group Head Chef
King Prawns in Coconut Curry & Kismur at RAFI
“Australian food is all about diversity and culture and I wanted to bring a bit of mine to share. Goa is a a small coastal state in south-west India known for its incredible seafood, so king prawns fitted the brief perfectly.
Served with a creamy coconut curry base and topped with kismur (a dry fish condiment) this is now one of my favourite dishes. Make sure you mop it up with our pita bread.” – Keith Dsouza, Head Chef, RAFI North Sydney
Gundagai Lamb Backstrap at Bopp & Tone
“Lamb is one of my favourite dishes and Bopp & Tone nails the preparation of this premium cut. Cooked over the wood grill it’s warming, smokey, rich but perfectly balanced with the roasted eggplant salsa. A must try!” – Brigitte Roche, Social Media & Content Coordinator
