Let’s Chat…
Can you introduce yourself and tell us a bit about your experience in hospitality?
My name is Rebecca, and I began my hospitality career at the age of 15, working weekends at my local rugby club in the UK, where I first started learning the fundamentals of the industry. In 2014, I relocated to Australia and continued to develop my experience in pubs and restaurants along the East Coast before settling in Sydney in 2016. I then joined the RAFI North Sydney team in April 2024.
What do you love about working in the hospitality industry?
What I enjoy most about working in hospitality are the genuine connections I get to build with our guests through exceptional food and wine. I take great pride in creating a welcoming and seamless experience, ensuring every guest is well taken care of, their glass is never empty, and they can truly relax and enjoy their time with us. There’s nothing more rewarding than seeing a guest leave thinking, ‘That was an incredible dining experience,’ and then returning week after week. Repeat visits are the highest compliment, and a true testament to the service we provide.
What do you enjoy about being a General Manager?
What I enjoy most about being a General Manager is the opportunity to shape a positive culture and lead by example. I take pride in helping my team grow both personally and professionally, and I’m always focused on ensuring that everyone feels supported and valued. Creating a workplace where people enjoy coming to work, feel safe, and know they have someone looking out for them is incredibly rewarding. It’s not just about hitting targets, it’s about building a team that feels connected, cared for, and motivated to succeed together.
What makes RAFI North Sydney a great venue?
RAFI North Sydney stands out as a truly exceptional venue because of its warm and welcoming atmosphere, driven by a team that genuinely cares about what they do. Our commitment to hospitality is reflected in every detail; from the vibrant, fresh, and flavourful dishes we serve to the thoughtfully curated drinks that perfectly complement the menu. It’s a place where guests feel at home, enjoy outstanding food and beverage, and leave with a memorable dining experience.
Why Applejack?
Since i met Chris, my potential new boss, in my interview his energy was very inviting and his values strongly align with my own; particularly positivity, integrity, and accountability. These principles guide both my personal life and professional approach, and I’m proud to work in an environment that reflects and supports them.
Favourite Applejack memory?
Winning venue of the year for 2024 – unbelievabley proud of my team and I for making this happen.
Go to RAFI order?
I love to start lunch with a Negorni and half a dozen oysters, especially if they are from Merimbula. My go to dishes would be the tuna, toothfish, crispy potatoes with extra french onion cream, finished off with the double chocolate, as you always have to finish with something sweet.
