International Women’s Day Breakfast 2021
Applejack Celebrated International Women’s Day with a Breakfast in Phylli’s at Forrester’s on the 8th March 2021.
We celebrated the powerful, strong, and inspiring women who represent Applejack Hospitality and all women around the world. When women empower each other, incredible things happen!
Applejack places a high value on equality, and we encourage and empower women in hospitality to thrive in the industry and own leadership positions. As a company we continue to strive for gender equality, supporting all genders at all staffing levels, and boast a balanced percentage of female leadership roles within our company.
On International Women’s Day 2021, key female front and back of house staff across all our restaurants and bars were invited to a breakfast put on by our Co-Founders Hamish Watts and Ben Carroll.
The event was in the stunning Phylli’s Garden, on a beautiful day the room was filled with light and excitement as the guests said their hello’s and caught up before taking their seats. Fresh fruits, yogurt, muesli and pastries lined the tables, followed by a generous spread of mains including scrambled eggs, bacon, avocado, and toast all prepared by our departing Group Executive Chef Jason Roberson.
While we do love a good spread, the morning wasn’t all about the food. We also had the pleasure of listening to two incredible female leaders of Applejack in a Q & A style format. Our two speakers; Jo Steuart, our Marketing Manager who is currently on maternity leave, and Amber Doig, Head Chef of the Butler Potts Point, shared with us their experiences and words of wisdom about being women in hospitality.
Jo shared her journey into hospitality marketing, as well as her new life as a mother and the challenges that have come along with both. She explained her experiences as Applejack Group Marketing Manager, what it was like having a baby during Covid and how her life and career path has changed since becoming a mother. Some words of wisdom she shared was to live life like it’s the final show… life’s not a dress rehearsal, so live it!
Amber then talked about her passion as a chef, her experiences, and the mentors that made her the chef she is today. Amber also gave us an insight into what it’s like working with her mum in the Butler kitchen and what she learned from the covid experience. She shared that Covid made her realise how grateful she is to spend time with family and friends.
It was great to learn more from two of our senior female leaders of Applejack and we all left feeling inspired. It was a lovely morning that aimed to motivate and empower the women of Applejack.
All women were also gifted a beautiful candle and hand cream from Glasshouse to take home.
A big thank you to everyone involved in making the day so special. Click below to view the full album from the morning!
